Thanks for you phone call tonight at 5:55pm (on a Friday) and asking me if I have 5 minutes for….

“just a really simple GST question”.

Whilst I appreciate that you think your question may only take five minutes of my time, the reason it takes five minutes of my time is because I have a lot of skills and experience backing me up.  And yes the answer might be five minutes, but without my knowledge and skills, the answer is far longer than five minutes.  You see, I have done the hard yards in the accounting & bookkeeping fields – the fields you don’t know anything about – hence why you called.

I have done a lot of study and education which continues each and every year.  I have done an accounting degree, completed my Chartered Accounting Diploma and my BAS agent registration.  Plus I am a member of the Institute of Certified Bookkeepers, Institute of Chartered Accountants, Institute of Public Accountants plus I hold a public practice accounting certificate.  I hold these very expensive yearly memberships so that my knowledge, skills and “know how” is the most up to date it can possibly be for my clients.

I haven’t even began to explain the close to 20 years experience under my belt, across both public practice and industry, both here in Australia and in London.  So I think I have done the time to justify charging for my years of hard work.

“So yes your question about “Should I register for GST?” I probably could answer that in five minutes….but I don’t even know your name.  I don’t even know your business.  I don’t even know if you have an ABN.”

So whilst you think the question has a magical five minute answer, there is probably about 15 questions I would need to ask you, before I could even contemplate giving you a response that would be the correct response.

p.s  I hope you don’t rely on someone’s advice, who hasn’t asked you those extra 15 questions, as trust me, it will cost you far more in the long run when you don’t get the correct and accurate information for that 5 minute question.
