“Don’t get caught up in your own business so much that you miss out on a great opportunity”.

This past weekend was crazy time for my business – Business Activity Statement deadline with the ATO and only one month shy of launching my new membership based business assisting startups and entrepreneurs with financial education and training (FEAT group if you want to take a peak – just a landing page – but I am getting there).

It would have been very easy for me to lock myself away in my study at home, ignore the hubby and kids, and bash out the last few BAS’s and write a whole heap of website content for the new website.

However, Saturday morning I woke up and watched this video – and it changed my entire day.

You see, I saw Daniel from Thankyou group speak at a business breakfast before Christmas.  Whilst I had always thought “gee – you are an amazing business” – I never really paid any attention to what they were exactly doing until I heard him speak (excuse my ignorance…..sometimes I get stuck behind mountains of paperwork and have no life).

But watching this video, and seeing yet another way they are trying to change the world (for the better) and I knew I had to get involved.

“Surround yourself by people who inspire you – people that are better than you.”

This quote is so true – if you surround yourself by people who are better than you, people that inspire you – well maybe you will just learn a thing or two.

And by gosh did I learn.

Saturday I took my son (he is 6) to Essendon Fields where the Thankyou group were packing their book #chapterone.  I wanted to help, I wanted to be around them, I wanted to chat to them, I wanted to see them in action, I wanted to be inspired. I wanted to give back.

And I was not disappointed.

The thing I noticed most – they are so humble – they are changing the freaking world, and yet Daniel and Justine was happy to chat to me and the other volunteers (as were the other team members), we all got our hands dirty wrapping, sticking, folding, cutting and tying, and I felt some small way responsible for helping change the world.

So to the Thankyou team….thank you for having me.

You inspired me more than you will ever realise just by letting me help.  I wish you all the success with your book, your baby range launch and your exploits in New Zealand.

And I look forward to reading the amazing book and being inspired all over again.
